Diverse nature, MODEST CUIXART
The exhibition kicks off the gallery's 50th anniversary program.
In 2023 the Anquins gallery will celebrate its 50th anniversary and for this reason it has scheduled a set of exhibitions, publications and events that will begin on Friday January 27 with the opening of the exhibition of the historical artist Modest Cuixart (1925-2007).
His intense artistic career began in 1948 when he founded "Dau al set" with Arnau Puig, Brossa, Tharrats, Joan Ponç and Antoni Tàpies. In the 1950s, he renewed informalism, received awards as important as the Sao Paulo Biennale and achieved great international success. Cuixart goes through different artistic stages, some controversial by critics, others unfairly forgotten or almost unknown.
The exhibition Diverse nature, curated by the doctor in history of art Raquel Medina, is created with a magnificent selection of works from the best of Cuixart. In 2021, Raquel Medina coordinated an impressive exhibition of Cuixart in the Museo de arte abstracto de Cuenca, where she presented the book "Cuixart, los años cruciales, 1956-1966", in which the historian analyzes in depth the artist's work.
Raquel Medina tells us about the artist:
"Alchemist of matter, genius of color, and wizard of graphics that converts into sign, figure, geometry or calligraphy, Cuixart tackled from his own territory the enigmas of existence, of the universe. At no time has he tried to reveal them, he only invites us to enter an imaginary world, - that of his works - and offers us an experience that, beyond aesthetics, pushes us to explore new dimensions of the reality that surrounds us".

The exhibition will be available from January 27 to March 11, 2023. You can found the catalog here.
