A painter of everyday reality, he was prolific in portraits, still lifes and landscapes. But where he undoubtedly best expressed his talents was in capturing the rhythm. This is attested by his hundreds of drawings and oil paintings of dance, ballet and, above all, jazz, as well as the various books he has published on these subjects.
