Each line of Monica Subide’s paintings is created by an unlimited imagination and wide blank zones set this distance between the real and the imaginary world. The use of different media and mastering the art of collages is one of her biggest characterizations. Beholders of her art feel as if they are reading a book of fictional stories. They swing into her imagination and every part of the artwork links one chapter to another, like a fairy tale you are told before going to bed. It accompanies you to your dreams where you cannot distinguish between reality and fantasy. Monica Subide gently rocks us into these dreams, speaking with the delicacy of flowers. But at the same time, she has a critical view towards everyday life in the danger of extinction. Portraying giant and threatening flowers reveals that she does not only want to show the beauty of life, but also the fears that it holds for us. In many cases she chooses the special perspective of children. Her paintings, drawings or ceramics refer to each other, creating an own world with characters like the isolated sister, the brave Raluy Alice or the fish sister. In all of them we can find duality, beauty, color and the odyssey of a human being, sometimes locked, isolated, disguised or lost.
